Colleges share their success at the January 2010 Retreat

YVCC shared their new effort around building faculty learning communities with grant support from the SBCTC in addition to their concerns over ensuring their math course improvement efforts align with the state’s direct transfer agreement (DTI) particularly with how it supports UW transfers.

Renton Technical College mentioned pride in their efforts around creating and supporting a well-functioning math lab but have concerns over how math is taught across their various technical programs.

Clark College is proud of their work supporting their pre-college ABE through college-level math alignment work but shared concerns over gaps between part-time and full-time faculty.

Lower Columbia is proud of their movement to having a critical mass in their department for math change but concerned over low student success rates overall.

Spokane Falls was pleased to mention the rolling out of their new developmental sequence this year.

Whatcom was excited to share that they launched their first online math course but they have lingering concerns with helping students successfully navigate their math sequence.

Cascadia is proud of their expanding North Score District partnership but mentioned concerns related to their Math 95 and intermediate algebra courses.

Tacoma and Green River teamed up to share that they both are proud of the degree of student support they provide using math labs, linked courses and SI while also having some concerns ensuring quality with the mix of part-time faculty.

Highline is proud of their collaborative work to build a new developmental math sequence and share that placement is an area of ongoing concern.

Bellingham mentioned how proud they are of the feedback received from a recent graduate/employer survey; the feedback was very positive. They mentioned the length of time it takes students to progress through their dev ed sequence as their main area of concern.

Seattle Central noted their linked course and Achieving the Dream work as highlights but had a concern with their intermediate algebra course.

Everett is proud of how they have embraced department-wide improvements and is excited to gain from the RPM project.

The Northwest Indian College is most proud of its dedicated, long-term staff while having a concern with the numbers of students taking one developmental math course.

Pierce College is proud of its dedicated group.

North Seattle is proud of its cohesive faculty group and of its math resource center. NSCC wants to see more students achieve higher levels and reach college-level math there.
