The program is designed to ultimately improve student passing rates in pre-college math by fostering system improvements to math curricula, instruction, and assessment/placement. The program is comprised of college math faculty and administrator teams charged with designing and managing implementation plans to address this project’s core, inter-connected focus areas. Teams will receive a host of significant supports coupled with opportunities for content-rich professional development highlighting state, federal and private sector connections and current research on practices worthy of attention.
A unique element to the program is its focus on college math departments. In addition to overseeing funding to local projects demonstrating the best chances for success, PCM program staff will provide technical support, array tailored professional development opportunities and resources, chronicle progress, inform stakeholders, and continuously evaluate local efforts. The program will award funds to at least six colleges that demonstrate the best chance for fulfilling the program's goals and that meet core parameters outlined in the program's Memo of Understanding.
Prospective applicants will be able to request grant awards up to a total amount of $120,000 for the three-year grant period beginning March/April, 2010. However, year-to-year funding will be contingent on meeting annual goals and demonstrating progress. Applications will be accessible through the SBCTC Online Grant Management System (OGMS) on January 4, 2010.
