If you know of specific resources (web-based
or print) that you think will be helpful for the work you hope to
do or discussions you want to have next week, please send the file
or link to Chris Gildner (cgildner@highline.edu
); We will be posting this material to the TMP web site. To view
these postings, click on the Pre-meeting Resources title above).
This is a “working” retreat—in practical
terms what that means is there are no official “presentations”
or “sessions” and that as a group we’re collectively
responsible for the quality of what happens there.Oury goal is to
provide the space and time for us to have some rich and in-depth
discussions about key issues relevant to the Transition Math Project
and to produce some tangible work related either to our statewide
project (e.g., the problems/examples work, college readiness/placement
assessment, …) or to specific local partnership efforts (e.g.,
Cascadia’s work with Northshore in terms of curriculum mapping
around the College Readiness Standards).
We’ll talk a bit more about the process when
we gather, but just to give you a basic idea, the approach is what
some folks have referred to over the years as
“open space technology” ; more recently, the high-tech
world has adapted a similar notion in a model people call “Bar
Camps” . Ws're not interested in a rigid application of
any particular model, so don’t worry about memorizing any
of the rules, but we’ve found that a loose application of
this approach works well for this kind of group and context. And
if things aren’t working we can always shift gears and adapt!
