Washington State
Math Placement Initiative
Sponsored
by the Transition Mathematics Project
The Washington State Math Placement Initiative, with
sponsorship by the Transition Math Project, is a new project designed
to evaluate the role of math placement tests for students making
the transition from high school to college, compare and articulate
the differences in test formats and purposes, identify the challenges
with placement and diagnostic testing, and gather and present for
a wide audience examples of relevant work underway in Washington
and around the country.
The Office of Educational Assessment (OEA), at the
University of Washington, is working with a collaborative group
of Washington state teachers and faculty to align the Intermediate
Math Placement Test (MPT) with the recently developed College Readiness
Mathematics Standards (CRMS), and to create a college readiness
mathematics test to be taken by Washington state 11th-grade students.
