Pierce County Careers Connection Project (PC3)
The Pierce County Career Connection’s (PC3) Transition Math Project
With grant funding from the Transition Math Project (TMP), PC3 has fostered relationships among instructors and administrators of Career Technical Education, Applied Math, Math Departments as well as business leaders to convey the rigor and high math proficiency expected across all industries. As a result of their accomplishments, over 100 educators from 8 counties have participated in hands-on collaboration and have received CRS-aligned instructional materials.
PC3 Partners
PC3 membership is comprised of 13 school districts; one Educational Service District; four community and technical colleges; and one skill center. Their executive board includes leaders from Chambers of Commerce; community and technical colleges and universities; non-profit organizations; and workforce and economic development agencies.
TMP Accomplishments
The PC3 Transition Math Project has developed industry-based math scenarios aligned with the College Readiness Standards (CRS).
PC3 has hosted the Math/CTE workshop series, which brings together administrators, CTE instructors and math faculty to collaborate on local-level projects. These local teams are developing Math/CTE team teaching, public outreach, CTE math courses and course sequencing, and a variety of other tools that spotlight the importance of college readiness in math for all students.
This workshop series replicates the larger TMP effort of connecting to local and regional-based partnerships to further disseminate the College Readiness Standards. Products developed by the local teams attending the Math/CTE workshops will be shared statewide in spring 2009.
PC3 also partnered in the development of the Construction Math Toolbox with the Construction Center of Excellence/Renton Technical College in its TMP one-year capacity grant, and helped disseminate the product across Washington State.
