Project Time (TIME)

Project Transitions in Mathematics Education’s (TIME) Transition Math Project

Project TIME has used effective outreach to inspire students, their parents and district-level educators to increase the rigor and importance of math achievement in their practices and goals.  This partnership’s products and events are meaningfully connected: for instance, many of the students attending Parent/Student Math Advisory Nights attend schools in districts that piloted the Applications in Mathematical Reasoning senior course.  This links the message students and their families receive with a tangible route to ensure their success.  Project TIME’s work has been disseminated through other Phase II projects, particularly Southwest TIME, which in turn has made it possible for other partnerships to utilize good resources and focus their efforts in non-duplicative ways.

Project TIME’s home website housed through Green River Community College hosts Parent’s Corner and Instructor Chat pages.  Teachers who want to attend workshops or annual symposiums hosted by Project TIME register at their website.

Project TIME Partners
Project Time is coordinated through Green River Community College and includes the Auburn, Enumclaw, Federal Way, Kent, Tahoma, Puyallup, Renton and Sumner school districts; and Seattle University and the University of Washington.

TMP Accomplishments
Project TIME’s popular Parent/Student Math Advisory Nights have attracted more than 350 participants per session.  Middle and high school students begin the evening by taking the COMPASS assessment, and then hearing from college faculty and students about the importance of rigorous math course-taking through their senior year.

Project TIME’s Senior Math Course, Applications in Mathematical Reasoning, was piloted in 2007-2008 school year by over 200 students in the Kent, Auburn, Renton, Sumner and Highline School Districts. During the 2008-2009, the Federal Way, Enumclaw, Puyallup and Battleground school districts (a primary partner of another TMP Phase II Partnership, Southwest TIME) began using the course materials.  Project TIME also offers professional development workshops helping instructors launch the senior math course.

Over 75 math educators and administrators from middle school, high school and college participated in Project TIME’s 3rd Annual Summer Math Symposium. The school districts who participated include Auburn, Enumclaw, Kent, Edmonds, Tahoma, Highline, Renton, Sumner, Puyallup along with Green River Community College and Seattle University.  Since 2006, educators have taken part in these in-depth Project TIME leaders presented at the 2008 AMATYC Conference in Washington DC, showcasing hands-on lesson plans designed for middle and high school students.
