Whatcom
County Project (WCP)
The Whatcom County Project (WCP) is a county-wide
partnership that includes all of its school districts, the Whatcom
Tech Prep Consortium, Western Washington University, Whatcom Community
College and Bellingham Technical College. Over the next two years,
WCP will assess the current status of math instruction and professional
development needs across the partnership both at the high school
and college level.
This team will then develop a guide to describe the
models of instructional practices found in successful mathematics
classrooms and the professional development strategies that best
support implementation of these practices. Based on the actions
and results of year one, the Leadership Team will have a commitment
from district and cross district teams to implement a model of job
embedded, professional development. The project’s overall
focus rests on fostering powerful teaching and learning to promote
change in classroom practice. The work of these communities will
be shared and made public to other members of the consortium in
order to provide opportunities for replication.
