Case-Writing as a Tool for Mathematics Teacher Professional Development

This workshop helps participants learn how to write cases about mathematics instruction in classrooms that can be used in professional development settings and department meetings to stimulate conversations and reflections about mathematics teaching. Appropriate to all levels of math instruction, K-12, the cases focus on mathematical content, pedagogy, student thinking and school context. Learn how to develop materials that work in your own school setting.

Community & Business Engagement to Bring About Change in Math Education

Jo and Ruth talk about their work with the public. Jo relates experiences with an interesting cross-section of US society, talking about research and mathematics-learning. The publication of her recent book has meant that interaction with publishers,
journalists, parents & politicians brought many interesting reactions to the results of her work.

Ruth, who Jo describes as “the best engager of the public I know!”, discusses her work with parents and the business community - how her organization has developed a network to bring these groups together to bring math to all students.
