Washington State Initiatives and Education Organizations

Statewide Math Initiatives

WAMATYC is the state affiliate of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges and is  a non-profit, educational association. WAMATYC was established in 1986 to unite community college math instructors throughout Washington State.

Whatcom Community College Online Math Center The mission of Whatcom Community College's Online Math Center is to provide free access to a wide range of resources related to mathematics, its application, technology, and mathematics education.


State Education Agencies and Associations
Washington Education Association advocates for quality public education and the interests of public school employees.

The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges administers the Community and Technical College Act and providing leadership and coordination for the state’s 34 community and technical colleges.

The Council of Presidents (COP) is a voluntary association of the presidents of Washington State's six public baccalaureate degree granting institutions, established by a duly executed Interlocal Cooperation Agreement.

The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction leads, supports, and oversees K-12 education, including the administration of career technical education.

The  Higher Education Coordinating Board administers the state’s financial aid programs and provides strategic planning, coordination, monitoring and policy analysis for Washington’s public 4 year college and university system.

Professional Educator Standards Board is responsible for policy and oversight of Washington's system of educator preparation, certification, continuing education and assignment.

The Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board oversees a workforce development system that includes 18 education and training programs, and is the approved agency to receive federal Perkins funding.

The Employment Security Department  administers employment and training programs for Washington State, including those under the Workforce Investment Act.  They also compile significant labor market and career information.  The 12 Workforce Development Councils administer WIA youth and adult programs in their areas.


Washington State Non-Profit Organizations
Gates Foundation is an internationally renowned grant-making and research foundation based in the Pacific Northwest.  It is the primary sponsor of the TMP and numerous education initiatives statewide.

Partnership for Learning is an independent, statewide nonprofit organization that communicates about Washington State’s school improvement efforts and the need to better prepare ALL of our high school graduates for the demands of today’s global society.  They launched the College & Work Ready Agenda, which is a coalition advocating to improve math and science K-12 education.
